SABOR DIEZ Y SEIS PARADE AND FIESTA IN MIDLAND
Midland, Texas — The Hispanic Cultural Center of Midland is presenting Sabor Diez y Seis, a celebration of Mexican music, food and heritage, in Midland on September 11. The educational and cultural event is for people of all ages to observe the 200th anniversary of Mexico’s Independence from Spain.
The festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade that will start at the intersection of Lamesa and Indiana streets, travel south on Lamesa Street then east on Florida Street and end across the street from Dona Anita’s Restaurant, 305 W. Florida Ave.
Celebrations will continue at the Sabor Fiesta, 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., at Hogan Park, 3600 N. Fairgrounds Road. There will be Mariachi and Tejano musical performances and a Taste-Off featuring local Mexican food restaurants. There will also be entertainment by the Ballet Folklorico, Charro roping demonstrations, piñata smashes, a jalapeño eating contest, and much more. Consul, Hector Raul Acosta Flores, with the Mexican Consulate in Presidio, Texas, will give the “Grito de Dolores” (Cry of Dolores), the battle cry of the Mexican War of Independence. The first annual Diez y Seis Señoritas will be crowned at 6 p.m.
