Midland's Travel Rallly
|
This week (May 7-15) is National Travel & Tourism Week. The Midland CVB held a Travel Rally on May 10 to honor the faces of tourism in Midland and celebrate travel's impact on the local economy. Mayor Perry signed a proclamation declaring it Travel & Tourism Week in Midland. Midland Chamber of Commerce President & CEO, Bobby Burns, spoke on Why Travel Matters and Midland CVB Director, Gaylia Olivas, spoke on the accomplishments of the CVB this last year.
Tourism is the second largest industry in the state of Texas.
According to the Governor's Office of Economic Development and Tourism department, tourism creates $295 million in direct spending for Midland. Travel provides 3,070 jobs and generates $3.9 million in tax revenue in our local economy.
From March 2010 to February 2011, the CVB booked 26 events, generating 6,299 room nights and $3,113,770 in direct visitor spending. We serviced 187 events that generated 31,468 room nights and $19,364,380 in direct visitors spending.
Bottom line, TRAVEL MATTERS!
